CHEESE SCHOOL

 

INTRODUCTION TO CHEESE SCHOOL

 

School was never this much fun!  If you live in or around Liverpool, why not join our monthly cheese school? Learn everything you ever wanted to know about cheese, how it tastes, how it is made, what to eat it with and what wine, beer, cider - or even tea to drink with it.

Each month we will gather in the upper room in the relaxed and comfortable Clove Hitch on Hope Street, where we will of course be able to take advantage of their well- stocked bar!

You do not have to sign up for every session, each individual one will cost £23 per person (unless stated). 

Each class will include tasting of 8-12 cheeses (of a good Northern size)! 
Where there is no pairing, 2 full glasses of wine/beer/cider (unless stated) 
Where there is pairing, 4 half glasses or 6 tasters 
Bread, biscuits fresh and or dried fruit, chutney, relish etc. 
Great company, new friends and lots of fun!

Tuesday 16th JANUARY -7pm Clove Hitch - FONDUE, ALPINE CHEESES, MULLED WINE AND RIESLING (£23 per person) -  One of our most popular Cheese School Sessions, perfect to get you over the post-Christmas slump, imagine yourself in an Alpine Chalet with hot cheese, hot wine, a beautiful selection of glorious Alpine cheeses and a glass of crisp Riesling.... Alpine cheeses are fascinating, come along to this session to learn why!

Tuesday 27th FEBRUARY -7pm Clove Hitch – CHEESE AND RUM (£23 per person) – Back by popular demand.  Forget its winter and spend a night in warmer climes with Rum tasting from the indomitable Murph of The Whisky Business, coconut, pineapple, demerara sugar, swaying palm trees…..  cheeses and rums to warm the cockles of your hearts.


Tuesday 20th MARCH -7pm Clove Hitch – IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF PATRICK RANCE (£23 per person) - Learn about the history of British Cheese and some of its finest examples by following in the footsteps of one of our heroes, Partick Rance who travelled the length and breadth of Britain during the 1950s and 1960s encouraging and cajoling cheesemakers to ensure that our cheesemaking heritage was not lost.  If you like beautiful classic cheeses, cheese tales and a couple of glasses of wine, this is the evening for you.

Tuesday 17th APRIL -7pm Clove Hitch – NATURAL & SUSTAINABLE  (£23 per person) Featuring tasting of organic and biodynamic wines from R&H Fine Wines along with organic or single herd cheeses.  Discover what it means to produce wine and cheese in a responsible and sustainable way, what good animal husbandry means for cheesemakers and what organic winemaking entails.  Dairy is NOT scary (and organic wine may reduce the chances of a hangover)!  Includes 5 wines and 10 cheeses with accompaniments.

Tuesday 22nd MAY -7pm Clove Hitch – CHEESE & COCKTAIL PARTY (£23 per person) - Well, why the hell not? We will put together a fun and seasonal cheeseboard with interesting accompaniments and the Clove Hitch will dream up a couple of amazing cocktails to go with it.  Come on summer!

Wednesday 23rd MAY -7pm Clove Hitch – CHEESE & COCKTAIL PARTY (£23 per person) - Well, why the hell not? We will put together a fun and seasonal cheeseboard with interesting accompaniments and the Clove Hitch will dream up a couple of amazing cocktails to go with it.  Come on summer!

Tuesday 26th JUNE -7pm Clove Hitch – THE CHEESE AND WINE OF PORTUGAL AND SPAIN (£23 per person) – Some fascinating wines come from the biggest wine producing area of Europe and have some great cheeses to match.  Recapture memories of holidays past or introduce yourselves to this rich heritage.  Tasting 5 wines, 10 cheeses and lots of traditional Iberian accompaniments.

Tuesday 24th JULY -7pm Clove Hitch – FORTIFICATION – SHERRY AND PORT (£23 per person) – For those who like a little glass of something stronger with their cheese.  This session, led by the very knowledgeable Jon from Wine Time at Scatchards, is always popular.  5 tastings of sherry and port paired with cheeses to match (think dry fino and Idiazabel).

Tuesday 21st AUGUST -7pm Clove Hitch – CHEESE AND GIN (£23 per person) – Everyone’s favourite!  Murph from Whisky Business will introduce you to gins from around the world which we will pair with 10 light, frothy, fruity and floral cheeses for a match made in heaven.  If you haven’t tried gin and cheese, you should!

Tuesday 25th SEPTEMBER -7pm Clove Hitch – FRENCH WINE/BRITISH CHEESE? (£23 per person) – Or perhaps we will try a British wine with a French cheese?  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, French cheesemaking has clearly had an influence over here and at this session we will explore the flavours and delicious wines of both countries and the debt we owe each other…..(we won’t debate Brexit but you can)!  To include 5 wines from R&H fine Wines.

Tuesday 30th OCTOBER -7pm Clove Hitch – AUTUMN BREWS (£23 per person) – Fine autumnal cheeses, smoke, leaves and lots of beer and cider.

Tuesday 20th NOVEMBER -7pm Clove Hitch – CHRISTMAS IS COMING… (£23 per person) – Plan the perfect Christmas cheeseboard and wine selection   Devin from RH wines has selected half a dozen superb wines for Christmas which we will match up with some fine seasonal cheeses so you can tailor make your own Christmas cheese offering.  You will be able to pre order all of these Christmas goodies on the night with some great discounts on the wine and cheese.   Just think how impressed your family and friends will be this year.

FUTURE SESSIONS

We will update this list during the year, if you follow our Cheese School Facebook page @cheeseschoolliverpool you can keep up to date with new sessions as they are introduced.  We hope to introduce some Cheese Schools at our new second home in Warrington during 2018 too.

HOW TO BOOK A PLACE AT CHEESE SCHOOL

Each session is limited to 30 people on a first come basis, if a class is oversubscribed we will always look at putting on another session.  If you have purchased Cheese School vouchers, you will still need to book yourself on to the classes you wish to attend.

We will not generally cancel classes which are undersubscribed, if we have to change or cancel a class for any reason we will try and give you as much notice as possible and if we cancel a class you will always be refunded or rescheduled to suit.

A note about cancellations.  Please note that if you wish to cancel cheese school places you have paid for up to one week before the event we will be able to offer a full refund.  Places cancelled within one week and up to 24hours before the event will be offered vouchers for a future event.  Places cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are non- refundable.
